Who is eligible to apply?
All Company and participating Franchise restaurant, corporate and field employees, children of employees and high school seniors are eligible to apply.

How will I know that my application has been received?
An email acknowledging receipt of the application is sent within 24 hours. The acknowledgment is sent to the email address provided when registering. If an acknowledgment is not received within 24 hours, please contact Scholarship Management Services by email at burgerkingscholars@scholarshipamerica.org or call 507-931-1682.
What are the details of the award?
- BURGER KING® Scholars awards are awarded each year.
- The number of awards will be determined by the funds available and the number of applicants.
- Most scholarships are non-renewable awards of up to $1,000. Awards cannot exceed educational costs.
- The scholarships can be applied to tuition, fees or books required for course load at accredited, non-profit two or four-year colleges/universities in the United States, Canada or Puerto Rico (Note: Employees may use awards to take enrichment courses at accredited institutions).
- A student may transfer from one institution to another and retain the award provided the institution and their enrollment fulfill eligibility criteria.
Can I apply every year for a scholarship?
Awards are not renewable; however, $1,000 Employee-Based Track recipients may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility and receive up to a maximum of four awards (up to $4,000).
Is there a deadline date for submitting applications?
Yes, the application period is from November 15, 2011, through January 10, 2012. Incomplete applications will not be evaluated. Following January 10, students will have access to their portal to view their submission and receive status updates and update their profile information, but no changes or additions can be made to the application. Transcripts, if required and not uploaded prior to submission, must be mailed by January 10, 2012.
Is a home-school student eligible to apply for the program?
Yes, considering that the student meets the criteria of the program.
What are the selection criteria?
- Academic achievements and records
- Participation in school and community activities
- Length of employment (BURGER KING® System Employee Only)
Will the scholarship be taxable?
Generally, the scholarship will not be taxable as long as it is used for qualifying expenses such as tuition, books and fees. However, a recipient should consult his/her tax adviser to determine whether or not it is taxable in his/her circumstances.
How and when are checks issued?
- Checks will be mailed to each recipient's mailing address.
- Checks will be made payable to the institution only.
- Checks will be issued on or around August 15, 2012 to recipients.
- Employees of the BURGER KING® system pursuing enrichment programs will be able to select if they would like to receive their award check on August 15, 2012, November 15, 2012 or January 15, 2013.
- It is the recipient's responsibility to notify Scholarship Management Services should the check not arrive within 30 days of an issue date.
How and when will I receive notification?
- All applicants will be notified via email in May 2012.
- Recipients will also receive formal notification via post mail.
- Past experience indicates that emails are sometimes not received or successfully delivered. Be sure to keep your email address current in your student profile.
