Who is eligible to apply?

  • Students may apply from public, private, vocational, technical, parochial and alternative high schools throughout the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.
  • Applicants must be high school seniors or college undergraduate students.
  • Maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent
  • Active on the payroll of a BURGER KINGtrademark restaurant for 12 months as of the application deadline (Salaried and hourly employees are eligible).
  • Demonstrate participation in community service and/or extracurricular activities
  • Must be student working at a participating restaurant location
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Plan to enroll or currently enrolled in an accredited two or four-year college, university, vocational/technical school or graduate school in the U.S. or Puerto Rico by the fall semester of his or her scholarship year


When can I apply?

  • Between December 1, 2009 and February 15, 2010.


How do I get an application?

  • Go to www.applyists.net
  • Click the "APPLY or update a new application" link.
  • Follow the onscreen instructions to apply for an AIN (Applicant Identification Number).
  • When prompted use ACCESS KEY: BKE
  • PLEASE NOTE THAT THE ONLINE APPLICATION IS ONLY AVAILABLE IN ENGLISH.
  • NOTE: Incomplete applications will not be considered and will not be returned.


What are the details of the award?

  • The BURGER KINGtrademark Employee Scholars Program is composed of two different awards.
  • The BURGER KINGtrademark Employee Scholars Award is a one time non-renewable award of $1,000.
  • The James W. McLamore Outstanding Scholars Award is a one time non-renewable award of $5,000.
  • The $5,000 awards are given to the top percentage of applicants applying to the program.
  • The number of awards will be determined by the funds available and the number of applicants.
  • The scholarships will be applied to tuition, fees or books required for course load at accredited, non-profit two or four-year colleges/universities in the United States.
  • A student may transfer from one institution to another and retain the award.


How long must I be employed before I can apply?

  • The applicant must be employed full-time at a BURGER KINGtrademark restaurant for at least 12 months as of the application deadline of the scholarship year
  • The applicant must still be employed at the time the scholarship is awarded.


Is a home-schooled student eligible to apply for the program?

  • Yes, considering that the student meets the criteria of the program.


What are the selection criteria?
An independent selection committee will evaluate the applications and select the winners. The committee will consider:

  • Financial need
  • Community involvement
  • Employment at a participating restaurant location
  • Academic achievements and records


How do I check the status of my application?

  • Return to www.applyists.net
  • Click the "Check Application Status" link
  • Enter your AIN, first name and last name
  • Click Submit


How do I make changes to my application?

  • Return to www.applyists.net
  • Click the "APPLY or update a new application" link
  • Using Login Option 2, enter your ACCESS KEY: (BKE)
  • Enter your AIN, first name and last name
  • Click on each tab and make changes to the necessary section(s), click "save and continue" to move forward
  • Print a new cover page for your records
  • Do not resubmit your paperwork; all changes are saved to your online application.


After the program deadline you will only be able to update your address and college name. To update this information:

  • Return to www.applyists.net
  • Click "Edit Mailing Address" or "Edit College Information" link.
  • Enter your AIN, first name and last name.


What are my responsibilities as a recipient?

  • You must enroll as an undergraduate in the fall of the year in which the scholarships are awarded.
  • You must continue in school the entire academic year without interruption.
  • You must deliver your scholarship check(s) to the proper office at your institution.


How and when are checks issued?

  • Checks will be mailed to each recipient's mailing address
  • Checks will be made payable to the institution only.
  • Checks will be issued on or about July 15, 2010.
  • It is the recipient's responsibility to notify ISTS should the check not arrive within 30 days of the issue date.


How and when will I receive notification?

  • Winners will be notified approximately two months after the application deadline. We will first attempt to reach you by e-mail. If we do not receive a reply in 10 days, we will attempt to call you at the phone numbers you provided as part of your application.
  • Non-winner notifications will be sent by e-mail.
  • Past experience indicates that e-mails are sometimes not received or successfully delivered. Be certain to provide us with your most current e-mail address.
  • Decisions of the selection committees are final and are not subject to appeal.


Where and when should I send my completed application?

  • Fax your complete application with all supporting documents to:

  • Your application must be faxed by February 15, 2010.

Are scholarships taxable?
Tax laws vary by country. In the United States, scholarship funds used exclusively for the payment of tuition or textbooks are normally not taxable. The scholarship recipient is responsible for taxes, if any, that may be assessed against your scholarship award. We recommend consulting your tax advisor for more guidance.

Program Administration
To assure complete impartiality in selection of winners and to maintain
a high level of professionalism, the program is administered by International Scholarship and Tuition Services, Inc. (ISTS), a firm that specializes in managing sponsored scholarship and tuition assistance programs.
